Position Overview:
Location: Long Island - Hempstead NY
Compensation: $150,000
The Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for retail construction projects, including new builds, remodels, and tenant improvements. This role plays a key part in the preconstruction phase, working closely with project managers, architects, subcontractors, and clients to ensure accurate and competitive pricing that aligns with project goals and company standards.
Responsibilities:

Lead the preparation of conceptual and detailed cost estimates for retail construction projects (big box, strip centers, QSRs, national brands, high-end retail, quick service restaurants, etc.)

Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents to understand scope and identify potential risks and opportunities.

Prepare quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns for all divisions of construction.

Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers; develop and maintain strong relationships with the subcontractor community.

Collaborate with the project team during the preconstruction phase to support value engineering and budgeting efforts.

Participate in client meetings and presentations to review estimates and answer technical questions.

Maintain and update historical cost data and unit pricing databases.

Ensure estimates comply with company standards, local regulations, and client requirements.

Mentor and support junior estimators as needed.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Minimum 7–10 years of estimating experience in the construction industry, with a strong focus on retail projects.

Proven ability to develop conceptual budgets and detailed estimates for both ground-up and interior fit-out projects.

Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, materials, and pricing.

Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Sage Estimating, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or similar).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong organizational and time management abilities, with attention to detail.

Must have estimating experience in a design-build firm, general contractor, or estimating service
