Senior Estimator


Position Overview:

Location:  Long Island - Hempstead NY

Compensation: $150,000

The Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for retail construction projects, including new builds, remodels, and tenant improvements. This role plays a key part in the preconstruction phase, working closely with project managers, architects, subcontractors, and clients to ensure accurate and competitive pricing that aligns with project goals and company standards.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation of conceptual and detailed cost estimates for retail construction projects (big box, strip centers, QSRs, national brands, high-end retail, quick service restaurants, etc.)

  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents to understand scope and identify potential risks and opportunities.

  • Prepare quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns for all divisions of construction.

  • Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers; develop and maintain strong relationships with the subcontractor community.

  • Collaborate with the project team during the preconstruction phase to support value engineering and budgeting efforts.

  • Participate in client meetings and presentations to review estimates and answer technical questions.

  • Maintain and update historical cost data and unit pricing databases.

  • Ensure estimates comply with company standards, local regulations, and client requirements.

  • Mentor and support junior estimators as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Minimum 7–10 years of estimating experience in the construction industry, with a strong focus on retail projects.

  • Proven ability to develop conceptual budgets and detailed estimates for both ground-up and interior fit-out projects.

  • Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, materials, and pricing.

  • Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Sage Estimating, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or similar).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with attention to detail.

  • Must have estimating experience in a design-build firm, general contractor, or estimating service
