Geotechnical Project Manager

A civil engineering firm with a Newark, NJ office is looking for a Geotechnical Project Manager to take the lead on challenging infrastructure projects spanning transportation, commercial, residential, and industrial sectors. This role offers the chance to apply your expertise in geotechnical investigations, foundation design, slope stability, and groundwater management while managing project teams and mentoring junior engineers.

Candidates should hold a Professional Engineer license and a master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field, along with at least eight years of experience. You will play a key role in delivering technically sound solutions, driving project success, and supporting business growth through client collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full lifecycle of geotechnical engineering assignments, ensuring technical excellence and timely completion
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses on soil properties, foundation systems, retaining structures, and hydrological conditions to inform design decisions
  • Collaborate with project teams across disciplines to integrate geotechnical solutions within broader infrastructure projects
  • Develop, review, and approve technical reports, feasibility evaluations, and construction documents
  • Manage client interactions and regulatory communications to facilitate project approvals and maintain stakeholder alignment
  • Track project finances and schedules, addressing any issues that could impact delivery
  • Mentor junior engineers, geologists, and technicians
  • Support proposal development and participate in strategic initiatives to expand the firm's geotechnical services

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering requires; master's degree preferred
  • Current PE license in NJ or ability to obtain licensure promptly
  • A minimum of eight years' experience in geotechnical engineering with demonstrated project management expertise
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software and project management applications
  • Willingness to travel as project demands require
