Geotechnical Engineer

An established engineering firm is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer with 4 to 8 years of experience to join its team in New York City. This role offers the chance to work on a wide range of public and private sector projects while gaining hands-on experience in geotechnical design, field oversight, and special inspections. Ideal for an engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment and has a passion for both technical analysis and project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop scopes of work and contribute to proposal writing for geotechnical services.

  • Perform and review geotechnical analyses including settlement, bearing capacity, slope stability, seismic site classification, deep foundations, and support of excavation.

  • Oversee and manage junior staff during subsurface investigations and field inspections.

  • Review technical work completed by junior engineers, providing mentorship and quality assurance.

  • Prepare geotechnical reports aligned with NYC Building Code and other IBC-based regulations.

  • Provide Special Inspection oversight for foundation testing, subgrade evaluation, in-place density testing, underpinning, and SOE system installation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s with a geotechnical focus is a plus.

  • NYS Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months.

  • Strong analytical skills, technical writing ability, and collaborative mindset.

  • Experience using AutoCAD.

  • Familiarity with geotechnical software tools such as Slide, LPile, APile, WEAP, DeepEX, CivilTech Shoring Suite, PLAXIS, SHAKE, etc. is highly desirable.

  • OSHA 10-, 30-, or 40-hour safety training is a plus.
