Geotechnical Engineer

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer with 4 to 8 years of experience to join its growing team in New York City. This role offers a dynamic, collaborative environment working on a mix of public and private sector projects. Ideal candidates will bring strong technical analysis skills, solid report writing ability, and experience mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop scopes of work for inclusion in project proposals and client bids

  • Conduct and review geotechnical design analyses including:

    • Allowable bearing pressures

    • Settlement and consolidation

    • Deep foundations

    • Seismic site-specific response

    • Slope stability and seepage

    • Support of excavation (SOE) systems

  • Manage and review the work of junior staff during subsurface investigations and design analysis

  • Prepare detailed geotechnical reports aligned with NYC Building Code and IBC standards

  • Provide special inspections for deep foundation installation, underpinning, SOE systems, subgrade prep, controlled fill, and in-place density testing

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s with Geotechnical focus preferred)

  • NYS Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required

  • Familiarity with geotechnical software such as Slide, LPile, APile, DeepEX, PLAXIS, WEAP, and CivilTech tools is a strong plus

  • OSHA 10, 30, or 40-hour certification is advantageous

  • Strong communication, report writing, and analytical skills
